The Jubilee from Midnight ’til Three

On Facebook, my gal posted a Halloween poem, and I couldn’t stand to be outdone! I set to scribbling scurriously, furiously purging the seasonal droll from my soul!

As is my usual tack, I probably wouldn’t have finished it without a push from my dear gal Cheri… she guided me through and helped me find all the choicest words and adjectives. I would write something, she’d tell me how ridiculous it was, or senseless, and 80% of the time I’d be stubborn and be obscure anyways! 20% of the time, she was right on! perhaps I’m dyslexic with those numbers… anyhoo, Very much fun, but even now I wonder if it needs a fourth section, dealing with trick or treaters… hmmm… maybe next year!

So, submitted for your approval, here is the … poem(?)

The Jubilee from Midnight ’til Three:
A tricksters treat..
by “Devilish Dean” and “Macabre Modrow”  ~October, 2009
(sing along if the spirits move you..)

Halloween is a gruesome thing
a slickery critter with ectoplasmic wing
Ghastly, ghostly, grizzly, macabre!
Scary and hairy but mostly unharmly!
It’s a thrill in the air when the leaves get to dancin’
and a shriek & a scare when the ghosts get their chants in
All hail
All wail
Fall taaaaaaaaales
Halloween is in the air!

Which sort of mayhem may you dare to see
when witches are toiling from midnight ’til three
Leaping and shrieking and creeping and sneaking
cauldrons are reeking with noxious debris
We all will revel in the season’s good spirit
We all sing along to the songs we don’t fear it
All good frights
by moonlight
Fall’s greatest riiiiite
The spirits are calling for fun tonight!!

If monsters come calling this evening
in search of a dance or a bite
If zombies and goblins, gargoyles and sprites
dance with a dervishly gruesome delight
Don’t dare try to stop them, jump into the fun
the Halloween party has finally begun!
Feel so free
Shriek with glee
Feel the spirit in you and meeeeeeee
Hooray for Halloween!!!

You’ve written a fantastic poem and I love it. It’s imaginative and playful. And sometimes it’s better to be obscure. However, I never once used the words ridiculous or senseless! (Embellishments!) I just had trouble understanding words like “sprites” and “macabre”. You certainly do have an EXTENSIVE vocabulary! For anyone reading this who doesn’t know what “macabre” means: gruesome and horrifying; ghastly; horrible. But an average girl like me had to look that up! Keep up the great work, Devilish Dean… :)

..well, first of all, it needs more cowbell….. and then, I’d say I’m glad that the goblins came out to play! Incroyable! C’est Macabre! Zut Alors!!!
